Revamp for expressway near Hongqiao airport and railway station
A part of the G15 Expressway near Hongqiao International Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station will begin a revamp from next Wednesday, Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said on Saturday.
The part of the expressway being upgraded is from its conjunction with the G1501 in the north to that with the S32 in the south, a length of about 43 kilometers.
The revamp of the road surface is expected to be finished by the end of September, before National Day holiday, with the rest of the work to be completed later.
During the project, the number of lanes on the expressways will be temporarily reduced from six to four in the parts being revamped.
Due to the high traffic volume of the G15 Expressway, the bureau warns that the project could cause heavier congestion and advises motorists and trucks to use adjacent Jiamin Elevated Road, the G1501 or the Outer Ring Road (S20) instead if possible.
Also, the speed limit of the parts being revamped will be reduced to 60 kilometers per hour, and more traffic police cameras will be installed to catch speeding drivers, the bureau warned.
The project could further add to the traffic pressure around Hongqiao's airport and railway station, with an extension project of the S26 Expressway already underway.
