Citizen sports festival starts in Xuhui

Downtown residents can take part in over 300 sports events from today as the annual citizen sports festival starts in Xuhui District.
The annual citizen sports festival to run through August involves a number of races, track and field games as well as orienteering events for both professionals and amateurs across the district, the Xuhui sports bureau said.
Many health forums and lectures will also be held during the festival to encourage citizens to take part in sports events more frequently and develop a healthier lifestyle.

The district government today released a list of walking paths and exercise facilities across the region which are open free to the public. More such facilities have been planned mainly near the Xujiahui commercial area, Xujiahui Sports Park, the Caohejing High-tech Park as well as along the waterfront of Huangpu River, the government said.
It also launched an App named “Huitiyu” today which can record users' sports activities and offer incentives based on artificial intelligence technology.
Over 1,000 residents took part in the opening ceremony of the festival at Jiao Tong University today.
As a highlight, residents from the Huajing Town of Xuhui demonstrated a special cotton-weaving exercise which originated from Huang Daopo, a textile pioneer in the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368). The exercise imitates the cotton weaving actions and is said to be good to physical health.
