Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court has received and handled 4,508 cases involving companies based in the city’s free trade zone since 2014, the court announced.

The court just received 110 cases in 2014, and the number rose to 498 in 2015. But it started to rocket in 2016, when the court received 1,626 cases —  more than three times that of 2015. It slightly dropped to 1,479 in 2017.

Of the total cases received from 2014 to April this year, more than 46 percent of the cases concerned false statement about securities and 10 percent of the cases were triggered by contract disputes. Also, nearly 4 percent of the cases involved overseas companies.

Figures reflected the city’s free trade zone’s active involvement in financial affairs, court said.

To better deal with financial cases, the court has recruited nine financial experts who played as the jurors when the court made decisions.
