A charity run held over the weekend along the Huangpu River in the Pudong New Area attracted about 5,000 employees from 377 local enterprises.

The event, called “Shanghai Amateur Games,” was the 13th of its kind. Each participant received 20 yuan (US$3) at the finishing line and could donate it to a charity program of their choice presented at the site. Meanwhile, all registration fees from the participants will also be donated to the Shanghai Volunteers Foundation and will be used to support charity programs that benefit children.

Sports celebrities, such as famous Chinese swimmer Jiang Chengji and female Olympics air pistol champion Tao Luna, kicked off the run together with top executives from local enterprises.

The event includes two divisions, 3,000 meters and 10,000 meters, depending on the skill level of participants.

Between June and November, competitions including table tennis, dragon boat, badminton, basketball, football, a family marathon race and other activities will also be held in Shanghai for local enterprises and their employees.
