Shanghai named three new environmental education centers which will organize regular tours for citizens to promote environmental protection knowledge.

The three new bases are Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, Tianshan Sewage Treatment Plant and Shanghai Tianma Renewable Energy Company.

Shanghai already has 20 environment education centers, including science or technology museums, parks, waste treatment centers and pioneer companies in environment protection.

Together with the three newly added members, the centers will open to the public on a regular basis and organize tours or lectures to promote environment-related knowledge, especially among the younger generation.

Representatives of the three new centers were authorized with licenses from the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau on Tuesday, which marked the World Environment Day.

An environmental protection-themed exhibition and activities were held at Caohejing Park on Tuesday morning to mark the day.
