China Eastern Airlines staff demonstrate their aircraft repair skills yesterday. 

About 900 skilled young people from all over the country will gather in Shanghai next week to compete in a competition to select candidates for next year’s WorldSkills Competition.

China will participate in contests in 52 skill categories during the 45th WorldSkills Competition, which will be held in August next year in Kazan, Russia. Shanghai will host a competition to select candidates in 34 skill categories from Tuesday to Saturday, while the remaining selection events will be held in other parts of China.

Candidates enter national training teams and only one individual or group for each skill category will eventually be able to compete in the WorldSkills Competition.

The skills to be shown in Shanghai include aircraft fuselage repair, auto body repair, baking, cooking, hairdressing, furniture making, water treatment and robotics.

China Eastern Airlines will represent Shanghai to compete in aircraft fuselage repair.

The event will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) and is expected to attract about 60,000 visitors.
