Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Simon Bartley, president of WorldSkills Competition, and his delegation on June 12.

Li thanked the organization for its promotion of the world’s skills development. He said Shanghai needs to build a large pool of professional personnel more than ever for the city is trying to build its “five centers” and to turn itself into an excellent metropolis.

Last year, Shanghai won the bid to host the 46th World Skills Competition in 2021 and the preparations for the competition is underway. With the support from China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Shanghai will make all-out efforts to host a successful WorldSkills Competition, Li added.

Bartley said each time he comes to Shanghai he can feel the city’s efforts and passion to host a successful WorldSkills Competition. WorldSkills Organization is willing to support Shanghai to host a wonderful competition, and to help promote the Shanghai and the world’s skills development.

Tang Tao, vice-minister of China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the meeting.
