Shanghai police announced on Friday that they will step up patrolling on city streets for summer.

According to the plan, more police officers will be seen at major shopping hubs, schools and hospitals, metro stations and landmark tourist spots.

Meanwhile, the police's Shanghai Emergency Response Teams (SERT) will patrol 24/7 "to ensure full coverage of the armed force."

Patrolling police officers are expected to stop and check suspicious people and vehicles on the streets. Those who cannot be identified or proved innocent on the spot will be taken to the nearest police station for further investigation.

Police said they will strive to "remove all kinds of hidden dangers for crimes."

They also vow to improve emergency reaction plans for "key areas" including metro stations, shopping hubs, schools and hospitals.
