Typhoon Ampil has made a landfall in Shanghai from the east on Chongming Island around 12:30pm, warned Shanghai Metrological Bureau.

As a precaution action, all traffic connections between downtown Shanghai and Chongming Island have been closed, affecting the bus service running between downtown Shanghai and Chongming and ferry lines which have been suspended. The Yangtze River Bridge and Tunnel on G40 has also been shut down.

In the meantime, the city’s traffic authority has called off all ferry service plying across the Huangpu River.

Shanghai Metro Line 16 has reduced the train speed to 45 kilometers per hour all line while Line 2 doing so from the Lingkong Road Station to Pudong International Airport.

Metro Line 6 has suspended operation from the Gangcheng Road to Jufeng Road stations while Metro Pujiang Line has also called off operation all line.

Shanghai Shentong Metro Groups said the suspension or speed slowdown action has been taken because the operation is on elevated tracks and is exposed to risk as Ampil has packed a gale exceeding force 8.

Metro operators urged passengers to avoid taking station exit hall as a rain shelter to prevent blocking the station.
