At the invitation of Peru’s political party Peruvians for Change, Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang visited Peru from July 19 to 22 and met Peru’s Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva last Thursday at Peru’s Presidential Palace.

Li sent China’s Premier Li Keqiang’s regards to Villanueva and said China and Peru are good friends and business partners, and China has always viewed the Sino-Peru relations through strategic and long-term perspectives.

China hopes to exert complementary advantages with Peru to increase practical cooperation, and promote the sustainable and overall strategic partnership with Peru, Li added.

Villanueva said Peru highly values its relations with China, and it appreciates its long-term cooperation with China and the resulting economic and social benefits. Peru welcomes and supports the Belt and Road Initiative, and it hopes to strengthen the overall relations with China to benefit the people in both countries.

During his visit, Li also met Gilbert Violeta, president of Peruvians for Change, and Luis Castaneda Lossio, mayor of Lima.

Li also attended the signing ceremony of a friendly agreement between Shanghai and Lima, and the picture exhibition of Shanghai’s 40-year achievements of opening-up and reforms.
