New policies to attract Taiwanese
Minhang District has issued 38 policies to provide more convenience to the Taiwanese people who live and work there, as well as to lure more Taiwan-based enterprises to the area.
According to authorities, about 10 percent of the some 13,000 Taiwan-funded enterprises in Shanghai are based in Minhang, and about 50,000 Taiwanese reside in the district.
The new policies will grant children of Taiwanese parents the same rights as local children to go to kindergartens, primary schools and middle schools. There are 656 Taiwanese students in the district’s public schools.
The district is also planning to release 32,500 flats for rent, the first batch of which will be available by the end of the year. Taiwanese who qualify for public rental housing will have the same chance as locals to apply for these flats.
