Shanghai and Xiaomi Corporation sign a strategic cooperation agreement
Shanghai Municipal Government and Xiaomi Corporation signed a strategic cooperation agreement recently. Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong presided over the signing ceremony.
Prior to the ceremony, Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang and Mayor Ying Yong met Lei Jun, chairman of Xiaomi Corporation, and his delegation.
Li said Shanghai is accelerating the construction of its “five centers” and it’s working hard to build itself into an excellent metropolis and an influential socialist modern city. Shanghai is also building its “four brands” and upgrading the city’s function level and core competitiveness.
In addition, the city will better its development environment to aggregate a batch of competitive, innovative, and quality companies to support the national development and the global competition.
Xiaomi Corporation’s financial technologies, the Internet of Thing, and industrial designs deployed in Shanghai is highly compatible with the city’s industrial and technological development goals.
The city hopes to strengthen the cooperation with Xiaomi to promote the pooling of innovation resources, to seek breakthroughs in innovation technologies, and to make itself the debut place for new products.
The city welcomes Xiaomi to participate in the first China International Import Expo in November and the AI World 2017 Conference in Xuhui District, Li added.
Ying said the city is striving to build its modern service industries based on emerging strategic industries and advanced manufacturing industry. Openness is Shanghai’s biggest strength and the city welcomes Xiaomi and other companies to branch into the city, and Shanghai will promote its company service platforms to reduce the operation costs and create a more law-abiding, international, and convenient business environment.
Lei said Xiaomi has chosen Shanghai to set up its financial technology, the Internet of Things, industrial design and other key businesses operations because of Shanghai’s resources distribution, talents aggregation and development advantages.
Xiaomi hopes to become more involved in Shanghai’s artificial intelligence development and help accelerate the construction of the emerging industries’ cluster, Lei added.
Zhou Bo, executive vice mayor of Shanghai, and Hong Feng, senior vice president of Xiaomi Corporation, signed the strategic cooperation agreement; Xiaomi Corporation and Xuhui District Government also signed a related strategic cooperation agreement.
Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the signing ceremony.
