Police crackdown on crimes proved effective

Police around the city waged a campaign to crack down on all kinds of crimes and offenses on Saturday and said it yielded positive results.

The number of reports received at the police call center 110 was down 17.4 percent from the same day last year, and among them those related to crimes were 11.3 percent fewer, police said.

Citywide, police punished about 2,700 traffic offenses which could cause serious consequences, such as driving after drinking.

The fire authorities said they discovered over 4,500 violations in fire safety and demanded their correction.

Apart from the traffic police and fire authorities, criminal police, patrol officers and metro police were also involved in the campaign.
