Shanghai Party chief meets president of the US-China Business Council

Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Craig Allen, president of the US-China Business Council, and his delegation on Tuesday.

Li said this year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s opening-up and reforms, and President Xi Jinping said China will only be further opening up to the outside world at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018.

As China’s biggest economic center, Shanghai has benefited from the policy of opening-up and reforms and it will continue to follow this policy unfalteringly. Shanghai has introduced the “100 measures to open up” to share business and development opportunities with both Chinese and overseas companies operating here in the city.

The city will keep optimizing its business environment, create its government online integrated services platform to better serve the foreign and domestic companies.

This November, Shanghai will host the first China International Import Expo and the city welcomes all companies to participate in the expo to show their quality products and expand their trade cooperation with Chinese companies.

It’s important for the Sino-US relations to stay healthy and stable and the city hopes the USCBC can speak for the US companies operating in China to maintain and facilitate healthy Sino-US trade relationships, Li added.

Allen thanked the Shanghai government’s long-term support to the US companies operating in the city, and he highly values the good business environment and optimized government services.

He said USCBC approves the idea that China and the US work out the trade frictions through negotiations, and it will keep supporting US companies to increase their investment in Shanghai, and organize US companies to participate in the upcoming China International Import Expo.

In the meeting, Li also talked with representatives from Dow Chemical Company, Coca Cola, Procter & Gamble, Emerson, Wework, Johnson & Johnson, Qualcomm, Invista, and FMC Corporation, to learn about their business operation and development in the city.

Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the meeting.
