Children learn about medical knowledge at China's first medical experience hall for children at Gudai Road Station of Metro Line 12.

China’s first medical experience hall for children was unveiled at Gudai Road Station of Metro Line 12 over the weekend.

With the help of the Metro, the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University set up the hall in a bid to popularize medical knowledge with the public, especially kids, to stamp out any misconceptions they may have about hospitals.

The first group of 14 kids had a tour of the hall on Sunday. At the entrance, volunteers helped them put on white robes and guided them to wash their hands.

The experience hall showcases simulated medical apparatus like X-ray machines, CT scanners and an operating table. They played role-playing games in which they had the chance to become doctors themselves.

The impression of hospitals among children is often tinged with thoughts of needles, pain, and a lot of crying. But after seeing these simulated medical devices, children taking part in the experience came to realize that not everything associated with medicine is painful.

Xu Hong from the Children’s Hospital noted that they are located just outside of Gudai Road Station. “Many parents choose to bring their kids to the hospital via the Metro,” Xu said. “The hall will give them a glimpse of how we work so that we can quell their fears a little bit before they come to see us.”

The walk from the hall to entrance 3 of the station is now renovated with paintings drawn by kids and information about the Children’s Hospital.

Parents can book a tour in the hall via the WeChat Account "Bu Gu Niao Paediatrician Studio" three days prior. More experience games and classes will be added in the future.
