Man killed in fight over barking dog

A man has been detained for beating another man to death in a fight over a barking dog, prosecutors announced yesterday.

Around 7:30pm last Thursday in the community where they lived in Qingpu District, Zhou, the adopted daughter of the deceased, was frightened by Zhang’s dog when it barked at her.

Zhou had gone to fetch a parcel from a courier locker at the gate of the residential complex when the dog suddenly appeared and started barking and growling.

Terrified, Zhou called for her father for help.

Qu ran to scene of the commotion and shouted at the dog in an attempt to drive it away.

On hearing Qu’s voice, Zhang, the dog’s owner, appeared and began to remonstrate loudly with the father and daughter. Zhang’s mother then arrived and slapped Zhou on her face.

Qu then pushed Zhang’s mother away, which further enraged Zhang who began to beat and kick Qu who covered his chest with his hands before falling to the ground in convulsions.

An ambulance was called, but paramedics confirmed Qu was dead on their arrival.
