A pediatric service network covering the Yangtze Delta region has been established in Shanghai in an effort to improve professional capability, and streamline academic communication and patient transfers in the region.

Led by Shanghai Children’s Hospital and another three leading pediatric hospitals in the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui, the network features 81 participants covering both grassroots hospitals and leading public hospitals.

Two emergency patient transfer networks for newborn children and children with serious diseases will be established to allow the transfer of critically-ill children to high-end hospitals.

Five cooperation schemes covering grassroots hospital training, precise diagnosis and treatment, cloud-based health care, technology promotion and children’s drug use and evaluation will be launched as well.

Another eight clinical research plans will also be carried out in line with these schemes, officials said.

“The network will allow us to share medical resources and enhance training for grassroots doctors,” Dr Yu Guangjun, president of Shanghai Children’s Hospital said. “We will also become a unified health service system to benefit all patients in the region.”
