Shanghai Party chief meets president of the Republic of the Congo

Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Denis Sassou Nguesso, president of the Republic of the Congo, and his delegation last Saturday.

Li welcomed Nguesso on behalf of the Shanghai Government. He said China and the Republic of the Congo have been friends since the two established diplomatic relations 54 years ago, and president Nguesso has visited China and Shanghai many times.

President Nguesso’s current visit and his attendance at the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and his meeting with President Xi Jinping have produced fruitful results to bring new dynamics into the China and the Republic of the Congo relations.

As China’s biggest economic center and an epitome of the country’s opening-up and reforms, Shanghai is accelerating the process of buildings its “five centers,” and turning itself into a globally influential metropolis and a modern socialist city.

Shanghai is willing to work with the Republic of the Congo to implement the consensus regarding the “eight actions plan” reached by the top leaders of both countries at the 2018 FOCAC, and exert the complementary advantages of both countries and share business opportunities.

Nguesso congratulated China on its successful hosting of the 2018 FOCAC and thought highly of the “eight actions plan” put forward by President Xi Jinping. He said he could feel the vibrant and dynamic lifestyles and the tremendous changes of Shanghai every time he visits.

The Republic of the Congo is willing to learn from Shanghai’s experience in opening-up and reforms, and strengthen its cooperation with the city in trade and other industries to reach better development for both countries.

Ma Fulin, China’s ambassador to the Republic of the Congo; Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee; and Weng Tiehui, vice mayor of Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
