Fake luxury bags seized in Shanghai shopping mall sting
A total of 683 fake luxury leather goods were discovered in a shopping mall near Shanghai Railway Station, and two people selling them were caught, police said on Wednesday.
The real counterparts of the fake bags, purses and belts of luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Prada could be worth up to 1.2 million yuan (US$175,000).
Railway police, whose administrated area covers the shopping mall on Baoshan Road, raided the area on Tuesday after receiving a complaint that fake goods were being sold in three shops there.
The shopping mall is Shanghai Yinxiangcheng, police told Shanghai Daily.
After plainclothes officers verified the allegations, 11 uniformed police officers performed the raid.
The owner of the shops, a man surnamed Huang, confessed that the goods were fake and alleged that he purchased them from Guangzhou and had them delivered to Shanghai via courier services.
Investigation is still underway.
