The annual Shanghai Tourism Festival opens on Saturday night with a grand parade on Huaihai Rd M., featuring 25 floats and 37 groups of performers from home and abroad.

The annual Shanghai Tourism Festival raised its curtain on Saturday night with a grand parade on Huaihai Rd M., featuring 25 floats and 37 groups of performers from home and abroad.

Floats representing the EU and Quebec took part in the parade as this year is China-EU Tourism Year and China-Canada Year of Tourism.

The Baoshan and Jiading districts, theme parks including Shanghai Disney Resort, Happy Valley and Haichang Ocean Park, as well as Kashgar in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Taicang, Taizhou, Nantong, and Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, Quzhou in Zhejiang Province and Wenshan in Yunnan Province had all sent floats to the parade.

The annual Shanghai Tourism Festival opens on Saturday night with a grand parade on Huaihai Rd M., featuring 25 floats and 37 groups of performers from home and abroad.

Artists from across the world brought waist drum, folk dances, bagpipe, wind music and ballet performances to the parade.

These floats will run into most districts in Shanghai and stop there for display during the festival. People can vote for their favorite floats and performers at the scene or through http://tttrip.online.sh.cn/gb/special/node_109583.htm?from=singlemessage. Also, voting via the app called wenhuayun (Chinese version only) can win overseas tours, according to the Shanghai Tourism Administration. 

The annual festival will run through October 6 with more than 70 activities on the list.
