A global university artificial intelligence academic alliance, which aims to develop a world-class platform to boost academic exchanges on AI and communicate and cooperate internationally, was set up yesterday at the 2018 World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai.

Several well-known universities and research institutes including Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US, Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, University of Sydney, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Science and Technology of China proposed the establishment of the alliance.

The alliance seeks to boost academic exchanges on AI and promote international communication and cooperation. Members of the alliance will collaborate with each other in various aspects, including creating an “artificial intelligence science committee” mechanism, promoting international exchanges on AI, strengthening communication with governments and policy makers, enhancing cooperation between institutes and enterprises, providing diversified opportunities on AI study and internship for students and popularizing AI to the public.
