A food deliveryman has been detained for assaulting a traffic police officer after being caught violating traffic rules, police said on Tuesday.

The suspect, surnamed Peng, was found riding his e-bike in a vehicle lane in the wrong direction on Zhenbei Road near Meichuan Road in Putuo District at 11am on September 12.

Xu Yue, a traffic police officer, signaled for Peng to stop, but Peng sped up and fled, running through red lights and breaking other traffic rules until he was finally stopped by Xu near a crossroads about 2 kilometers away, police said.

Peng was taken to the traffic police station, and there he assaulted Xu. Peng was stopped by another police officer who was present at the time, and the whole incident was caught on surveillance camera.
