Yin meets president of the Parliament of the State of Thuringia of Germany

Yin Yicui, chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai People’s Congress, met Christian Carius, president of the Parliament of the State of Thuringia of Germany and his delegation on Thursday.

Yin said China and Germany have a healthy and stable diplomatic relation and Shanghai values its cooperation and exchanges with each city in Germany. She briefed her guests on the Shanghai People’s Congress’s functions.

As a local legislature, the Shanghai People’s Congress has lawmaking power, superintendence, power of appointment and removal of personnel, and the authority to decide on major issues.

Shanghai has undergone major changes during the past 40 years. It has greatly improved its infrastructures, education, hygiene and health, and cultural industries, while enhancing its residents’ sense of gain.

The city hopes to expand its cooperation with the State of Thuringia in trade, culture, education, and youth exchanges, and it welcomes Thuringia to participate in the upcoming China International Import Expo in November, Yin added.
