The Didi driver who assaulted traffic police when being ticketed for illegal parking has been arrested, Huangpu District People's Procuratorate said on Tuesday.

The suspect, surnamed Li, was charged with endangering public safety.

In the incident that took place on September 4 on Sichuan Road M. near Hankou Road, Li in his car crashed against the police several times and knocked down a street cleaner, according to the procuratorate.

Li suddenly became "emotional" after police discovered that he was unqualified to work for Internet car hailing services.

Police also revoked Li's driver's license on the spot after the demerit points from his illegal parking that day meant he exceeded the allowed number of demerit points.

Li  was subdued by the police after bumping into a police car parked on the roadside and the railings along the sidewalk.
