A deliveryman who lit a fire in an elevator has been sentenced to three years with three-year reprieve for arson, the Pudong New Area People’s Court said.

At 2:42pm on January 5, Fu used a lighter to set fire to a poster in an elevator in an apartment building on Hejiong Road, causing  3,700 yuan (US$540) of damage and endangering residents, the court said.

Fu was frustrated by the time it took for the elevator to come, which delayed him and caused him to have his pay docked.

The fire was immediately put off by residents.

Fu was given light sentence as he had offered compensation and apologized.
