Former industrial town holds darts festival
An international darts competition started in Songnan Town in north Baoshan on Saturday as part of a culture and art festival to showcase the city's former lucrative industrial center in 1950s.
Over 100 top darts players from home and abroad are competing for the championship during the Shanghai Darts Golden League through Monday. The competition is being held at the Elite Valley, an innovative park converted from a former import and export warehouse.
Josh Mortensen from New Zealand, an English teacher from a Ningbo international school, said: "The darts sport helps me make a lot of friends and I like the pressure during the competition."
The competition is part of the Songnan culture and innovation art festival which began on Saturday and the ongoing Shanghai Tourism Festival. The town has opened many of its industrial heritages to visitors. Among them are the former factories of the city’s earliest glassware plant, motorcycle factory, iron alloy plant as well as a warehouse for China’s early exports.
These sites have been renovated into museums and creative parks. A well-preserved section of the Songhu Railway, China’s first railway that opened in 1876, also open for visitors.
