A joint research center has been established by Shanghai International Studies University and the Spanish Royal Academy to promote Spanish language education and related academic research in China, the university announced.

The Spanish Royal Academy was created in 1713 to establish the criteria for the correct and proper use of Spanish language.

The new center will serve as an international platform for China’s Spanish education and support its cultivation of outstanding language talent and cooperation in high-end scientific research with Spanish-speaking countries. It will also organize a series of activities to promote mutual exchanges and cooperation.

Darío Villanueva, director of the Spanish Royal Academy, said it chose to cooperate with Shanghai International Studies University as it has been at the forefront of implementing China’s policy of opening-up, especially in the area of foreign language education.

A forum was also held last week about Spanish education in China, which attracted more than 100 experts from home and abroad.
