Two youngsters solve riddles as part of the new "red tourism" tour at Longhua Martyrs’ Memorial Hall in Xuhui District.

A new "red tourism" route has been set up in Xuhui District aimed at getting young people interested in the city's revolutionary history.

The tour starts from Longhua Martyrs’ Memorial Hall and turns the Longhua revolutionary memorial site into an immersive experience with participants required to finish a number of tasks during the walk, the Shanghai Tourism Administration said.

Exhibits, high-tech installations and interactive items inside the hall are used to tell the stories of 256 heroes.

About 100 people took part in the tour when it was launched on Tuesday morning. They “experienced” historic events and “met” their revolutionary ancestors when accomplishing tasks, getting a glimpse into the hardships of the early Communist struggle.

The administration has launched two "red tourism" interactive tour routes since last year, covering the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The two routes are very popular, particularly among youngsters, the administration said.

“‘Red tourism’ is an inseparable part of Shanghai tourism,” said Shen Chao, director of the administration’s market management department. “Immersive experiences allow youngsters to better experience the glamour of ‘red tourism.’”

More “red tourism” tour routes will be unveiled in the future, the administration said.
