The city’s first international cosmetics conference will help transform Shanghai into an international industrial center for beauty and health products.

More than 200 industry leaders from the world’s top cosmetics brands will meet in Fengxian’s business district between November 23 and 24.

The business district, known as the Oriental Beauty Valley, is the first of its kind in Shanghai and includes a 20-square-kilometer industrial park which will serve as the headquarters of domestic and international companies.

The valley aims to be on par with France’s Cosmetic Valley in Eure-et-Loir and Loiret and Japan’s Saito Life Science Park in northern Osaka.

The conference will be an opportunity to lead the development of the world's cosmetics industry, according to the district government.

The valley has attracted nearly 100 cosmetics companies including American brand Nu Skin and South Korea’s Cosmax as well as local brands such as Pechoin and Jala.

It generates more than 40 percent of the total value of the city's cosmetics industry.

The district government expects the value of cosmetic and health products manufactured in the valley to reach 100 billion yuan (US$14.5 billion) by 2025.
