Swift payment system launched for airport parking
Drivers leaving Pudong international airport's main car parks can now pay without having to stop at a booth.
A car plate recognition system records arrival and departure times and deducts the fee from online payment platforms.
The P1 and P2 car parks introduced the technology to reduce congestion at exits.
Drivers need to register their car plate numbers with their Alipay or WeChat.
The P6 and P7 car parks at the Hongqiao airport’s T2 building has also opened the service.
A car can now exit in two seconds, compared with 10 seconds if using a manned booth.
The airport authority is developing another intelligent system to help drivers find their parked cars, according to the authority.
