Shanghai Foreign Historic Building Week kicks off

The first Shanghai Foreign Historic Building Week kicked off on September 27 at the Shanghai Science Hall with a picture exhibition about the French-style historic structures in Shanghai at the scene.

This event was co-organized by the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology and Shanghai Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. It aims to show how science and technology works on the renovation and protection of historic buildings as well as promoting the cultural exchange between France and China.

During the opening ceremony, an original play about the history of the Shanghai Science Hall was given by teachers and students from the Shanghai Theatre Academy and foreign performers.

Zheng Shiling, a historical preservation expert from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, French architect Jacques Ferrier and designer Francois Valentiny gave speeches about the evolution and features of Chinese and French buildings, green structure and the sustainable preservation of historic buildings.

At the picture exhibition, a group of precious architectural drawings of old buildings, documents and materials of the restoration technologies was displayed to the public for the first time to unveil the stories behind these local French-style buildings. A high-tech interaction zone was provided at the site as well.
