Local universities are prepared to help out at the approaching first China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held from November 5 to 10.

A total of 140 students from East China Normal University have been trained to serve at the approaching first China International Import Expo as volunteers, the university has announced.

About 500 students applied for the voluntary positions, with 140 winning out because of service experience, oral English competence, communication skills and manners.

They come from 25 divisions of the university, covering majors such as liberal arts, science, engineering, law, business, arts and sports. Of them are 53 undergraduates, 82 masters students and five doctoral students.

These include 31 majors of foreign languages, including English, French, Russian, and Spanish, and related translation.

They will provide services including international communication, media services, international trade and psychological consultation.

At Shanghai International Studies University, more than 300 students majoring in nearly 30 languages, including widely used English and less spoken Hebrew, are also ready to serve at the CIIE next month.

They have also received training on expo knowledge, cross-cultural communication, manners and resistance against psychological pressure.
