Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Rolf Dorig, chairman of Adecco, and Herbert Diess, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen, on Thursday.

Li said as the country’s biggest economic center and the window of its opening-up and reforms, the city has always been a hot-spot for foreign investment and it has attracted more than 90,000 foreign capital companies to register in the city, while gathering over 600 headquarters and 400 foreign research and development centers.

The city will keep unfalteringly opening up to the outside world and create better development opportunities for domestic and foreign companies. Currently, Shanghai is accelerating the process of building its “five centers” and “four brands.” Talent is the city’s first and foremost resource, and the city welcomes Adecco and other renowned companies in the world to settle in the city to draw global talent.

“Shanghai Manufacturing” is the city’s chief brand and the automobile industry is one of the pillar industries of the brand. The city will fully support Volkswagen’s plan to increase investment and promote innovation in the city, and it welcomes Volkswagen to import more technologies and researches, manufacturing of new products, and new models, import its high-end brands such as Audi, and make more in-depth cooperation with SAIC Motor to achieve win-win cooperation.

The city will strive to make best business environment to support the development of domestic and foreign companies, Li added.

Dorig said Shanghai is a modern metropolis and is attractive to the global talent. Adecco appreciates the city’s efforts to accelerate the building process of the “five centers” and provide opportunities to attract the talent. Adecco is willing to take advantage of its resource network and cultivate more quality talent for Shanghai.

Diess said thanks to China’s opening-up and reforms, Volkswagen and SAIC Motor’s joint venture SAIC Volkswagen has achieved great success during the past three decades.

Volkswagen highly values the Chinese markets and has great faith in its future prospects. The company is set to bring its latest technologies into Shanghai, and it plans to open its first new energy vehicle production factory in the city and bring in its high-end brand Audi into the two’s cooperation.

Volkwagen will keep cultivating its cooperation with SAIC in electrification technologies, intelligent network, and high-end brands overall cooperation.

Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the meeting.
