Fengxian makes news for Belt and Road reporters
The development of Fengxian District over the past 40 years was making news for these reporters from 16 Belt and Road countries
Reporters from 22 Chinese media organizations from 16 countries along China’s Belt and Road Initiative visited Fengxian District on Friday.
Newspapers, including the Harian Xin Bao Indonesia, Thailand's Sing Sian Yer Pao Daily News and the New Zealand Messenger, had been invited to report on the industry, urban life and culture of the southern outskirt district.
Zhuang Mudi, Fengxian's Party secretary, outlined the district's history and latest developments, in particular its contributions to Shanghai's development during 40 years of reform and opening up.
The district launched the initial reform on collective ownership of land in the 1980s, as well as building the city's first locally financed cross-river bridge over the Huangpu River in 1995. Today, Fengxian contributes daily tax revenues of 230 million yuan (US$33 million), Zhuang said.
The reporters and media representatives later visited farmland in Zhelin Town's Yinglong Village, the Oriental Beauty Valley industrial development as well as Shanghai Fish Lake, also known as Jinhai Lake, which will become the city's largest artificial lake covering 8.74 square kilometers. A number of the city's heritage skills were also shown to the reporters at Qingcun Town, which features a street dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
