Fudan University launches cooperation programs with overseas universities
Fudan University has launched two cooperation programs on journalism and global media communication with the University of Missouri in the US and the University of Melbourne in Australia at the 2018 Global Deans’ Forum on Journalism and Communication, it said.
According to Fudan, its cooperation with the University of Missouri is for undergraduate students majoring in journalism, which will allow them to have two years' study at Fudan and then two years in the US to receive their bachelor’s degree conferred by both universities. It’s also the University of Missouri’s first double degree program for undergraduates on China's mainland.
Professor Fritz Cropp, associated dean for programs at the University of Missouri, emphasized that journalism and mass communication education have never been more important before as we live in an age of constant flux of information.
"It is also a time for us to think entrepreneurially of what we have to teach to the next generation journalists," said Cropp.
The tie-up with the University of Melbourne is a double-degree program for postgraduates which includes one-year Fudan University study and another year in the University of Melbourne.
Besides collaborating with universities overseas, a laboratory for new media Fudan set up last summer now has cooperative projects with media giants like Bloomberg and Reuters in fields including financial news and Big Data.
With a theme of “Paradigm Exploration and Innovation — Talents Cultivation in a Changing Era,” the forum attracted more than 70 deans of journalism and communication colleges and industry representatives from home and abroad.
