The city has been spruced up with flowers and lighting for the upcoming China International Import Expo.

A total of 38 flowerbeds and landscapes, as well as 31 green attractions have been in place around the National Exhibition and Convention Center, the venue of the expo, according to the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau.

There are more than 6,700 flower boxes and hanging flower balls, and 1,984 new street-side trees around the venue, with more than 294,000 square meters of new greenery.

"We will step up patrols and replace withered flowers," said Jin Weilun, a bureau official.

All 281 projects designed to lift the appearance and environment around the center, and 482 projects  in 12 districts have been finished, according to the bureau.

Five public toilets have been newly built or renovated around the area, and 66 riverways have been cleaned.

Thirty one wastelands around the center have been planted with greenery and flowers.

The Century Avenue greenbelt has been decorated with more than 8,000 square meters of flowers and 51 flower boxes.

New and renovated lighting on the Yangpu, Nanpu, Xupu and Lupu bridges over the Huangpu River, as well as along 20 kilometers of river banks have been completed.

Nearly 300 new lighting or illumination renovation projects between the Yangpu and Nanpu bridges and 41 control installations have been finished.

The final stage of adjustment to improve the overall illumination of key areas such as the Bund, Lujiazui, North Bund is almost the end, according to the bureau.

The People's Square, the Bund and Lujiazui have been decorated with three large vertical flowerbeds.

The vertical flowerbed at People’s Square displays an autumn harvest scene, while another flowerbed south of the Waibaidu Bridge shows a ship setting sail. A large vertical flowerbed in the Lujiazui area displays a flourishing scene and conveys the message of win-win cooperation.

About 63,000 pots of flowers have been placed in nine key traffic areas such as the Yan'an Road overpass, outer ring road overpass and Hongqiao transportation hub.

More than 1,200 illegal outdoors advertisement boards or signs in key areas and the Hongqiao Business Hub have been dismantled.

Over 540 street-side stands blocking pavements have been cleared in the city.
