Rain, then temperatures drop, air pollution steady
Residents have been advised by the weather authority to wear coats and take umbrellas when going out as cool and rainy conditions are ahead.
A broad trough of low pressure and a cold front will meet today, bringing rain to the city, according to Shanghai Meteorological Bureau
The temperature is expected to fluctuate between 17 and 22 degrees. Rain is set to continue tomorrow morning with temperatures steady.
A cold high pressure will set in on the weekend.
Sunny days will return, but temperatures will drop to between 12 and 13 degrees.
It will further fall to 11 to 12 degrees early next week.
Haze shrouded the city between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning due to weak atmospheric diffusion, according to the city’s environmental monitoring center.
The air quality index (AQI) climbed to 134 at 1am, indicating light air pollution, with the major pollutants PM2.5 particles. Then, AQI gradually decreased. The air started to get better at 10am when AQI fell to 94, indicating moderate air quality.
Air quality is expected to be fine for much of the rest of the week.
Despite pollution, it was warm yesterday, with the high reaching 22.7 degrees Celsius in downtown Xujiahui.
