Officials launch the exhibition telling the stories of Huangpu District residents from Hong Kong.

An exhibition in Huangpu District tells the stories of 40 local residents from Hong Kong who made outstanding achievements in Shanghai during China's 40 years of reform and opening up.

The stories were collected by the Shanghai Hong Kong Association and are being displayed at the Infinitus Mall in Xintiandi to the end of October.

The free exhibition includes photographs and details of the Hong Kongers' experiences in the city during reform and opening up. The history of Hong Kong comics, which combine Japanese and Western styles and are popular with locals, is also on display.

"The event aims to unite and integrate the power of Hong Kongers to encourage them to continue contributing to national development as well as promoting cooperation between Hong Kong and Shanghai," said Edward Cheung, chairman of the association.

The collected stories cover topics including people's livelihoods, cultural innovation, the economy, service industry, education, youth development and public benefit. They reflect the development of Shanghai and Hong Kong as well as the close cooperation between the two cities over the past 40 years, the association said.

The exhibition was initially launched in Huangpu to reflect the fact that many people from Hong Kong had chosen the district as the first stop in their development in Shanghai, said Qi Xianhui, deputy director of the district's united front work department.

Afterward, it will be moved to Jing'an and Changning districts to the end of the year.

Shanghai currently has more than 100,000 inhabitants from Hong Kong, over 400 of whom are studying at local universities, according to the association.

The two cities signed 15 cooperation agreements on the economy, trade, education, culture, finance, legal arbitration and scientific innovation during the fourth meeting of the Hong Kong Shanghai Cooperation Conference in August.
