Detector is on the right road
An advanced monitoring system that can detect wear and cracking in roads and pavements has started a trial operation in Yangpu District.
The system named Lucebao, or road detector in English, is a set-top box looking device. Capable of being carried by any vehicle, it can detect any structural hazard.
“We can apply the device to a street sprinkler or a sweeper,” said Chang Guangzhao from Shanghai Urban Construction. “The device will record the data and upload it to the government body in charge of road maintenance.”
Chang added that with the help of advanced algorithms, it is more than 95 per cent accurate.
The information means workers will be able to fix problems before they become worse.
Meanwhile, another technology developed by the company will be used in the Shanghai North Cross Passage which is now under construction.
The technology, known as the “full life cycle management system”, is a set of more than 3000 intellisense terminals.
“They are installed in pipelines, power plants and decorations in the tunnel,” said Ding Wei, deputy manager of the company. “They can detect surface subsidence at millimeter-level.”
