Health care services for import expo 'fully prepared': officials

All of the five medical stations and 18 designated hospitals providing medical services for the upcoming China International Import Expo are fully prepared, local health officials said on Wednesday.

The five stations inside the National Exhibition and Convention Center, which hosts the Expo, have been equipped with medical staff on stand-by to provide emergency medical services and health care for visitors, participants and working staff, officials from the Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission said.

The 18 designated hospitals have also prepared green channels and special teams serving for the event.

Five ambulances will be parked in the convention center every day to provide emergency patient transfers between the center and designated hospitals.

Dr Ma Jun, president of Tongren Hospital, which is in charge of one medical station, said the hospital has set up a special team for the event and also allocated special rooms at its emergency department for health care tasks and patients who are transferred from the medical station to the hospital.

Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital, the only international hospital among those designated for the Expo, have enhanced their language capabilities for the event. The hospital itself has staff from ten countries, and they've recruited volunteers to cover another nine languages for patients from different countries.

Shanghai's Jiahui International Hospital also opened its rabies prevention clinic on Wednesday to further enhance its health care capabilities. It is the city’s first international hospital equipped with a rabies prevention clinic.
