Wu Jianrong, former chairman and deputy Party secretary of the Shanghai Airport Authority, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office for severe violations, the city’s disciplinary watchdog announced on Thursday.

Wu, 56, was found to have severely violated political disciplines, including colluding with others in confession, transferring evidence of crime, resisting investigation and engaging in superstitious activities, the CPC Shanghai Commission for Discipline Inspection said on its website.

Wu was also accused of violating frugality rules, taking bribes, seeking benefits for his wife’s company, trading power for money and gifts, and hiding money overseas, the commission said.

His illegal gains will be confiscated, and his case transferred to the judiciary organs.

Wu once served as the deputy secretary general of the Shanghai government, the director with the Shanghai Commodity Price Bureau as well as the deputy director, deputy secretary of Party group and head of disciplinary inspection group of the city’s development and reform commission.
