Shanghai mayor talks with Portuguese guests on wider cooperation and innovation

Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Jose Augusto Duarte, Portugal’s ambassador to China and Paulo Ferrao, president of Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology on Tuesday.

Ying welcomed his Portuguese guests to attend the 2018 Pujiang Innovation Forum, which concludes yesterday.

Ying said the Pujiang Forum has been promoting the technological exchanges and has become an engine to promote international innovation cooperation since it was established.

At this year’s forum, experts from China and Portugal would have deep communication on maritime sciences, nanomaterials, aerospace industry, and energy in the hope to promote cooperation.

Ying told his guests that Shanghai is working hard to build itself into an international center of economy, finance, trade, shipping, and a technology and innovation center. The city hopes to deepen the existing cooperation in technologies and economies under the overall strategic partnership with Portugal.

The city welcomes more top Portuguese scientists and science institutes to carry out more cooperation and technological exchanges in Shanghai, Ying added.

Duarte said the Pujiang Forum has created a high quality communication platform that focuses on innovative development. Portugal is glad to attend the forum as guest of honor.

Shanghai has always been at the forefront of China’s technological innovation and Portugal has had extensive communication and technological cooperation with universities in the city.

Portugal hopes the forum could further promote the two countries’ cooperation and exchanges, Duarte added.

Israel Saraiva, Portugal’s consul-general in Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
