A promotional video for the Pudong New Area made its global debut yesterday to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the area's economic reform.

“Open Pudong, City of Dreamers,” a 5-minute-and-20-second short film, shows a dynamic and liveable Pudong to the world. It is being shown in Shanghai, London, Paris and Tokyo.

Pudong has taken a leading role in the country’s reform, which was initiated 40 years ago.

Over the years, it has created many “firsts”.

It is where the city’s first foreign-owned bank opened, and the first free trade zone in China’s mainland.

One of the firsts the video showcases is a domestically-designed and made “exoskeleton robot,” a smart system that can be worn by paralyzed people.

The video features a number of celebrities including short track skater Yang Yang and Peking Opera artist Shi Yihong. It also features ordinary people such as white-collar workers in the financial hub of Lujiazui, zookeepers at the wildlife park, overseas students in New York University Shanghai and masters of handicrafts in ancient town of the Xinchang.

The video was released in commercial hubs and bustling stations in London, Paris and Tokyo.

It will also be played on big screens across the city’s landmarks including Shanghai World Financial Center.
