Over 800 governmental officials and medical specialists gathered in the city to participate in the first China-Eastern Europe International Forum on Thoracic Disease which opened on Friday.

Topics like the latest development on lung disease, chest surgery, lung transplant and lung cancer treatment were discussed at the forum which was organized by Shanghai Chest Hospital, Shanghai Hospital Association and the Hospital affiliated to Charles University in Prague.

Dr Pan Changqing, president of Shanghai Chest Hospital, said its communication and cooperation with the hospital in Prague started in November 2015, when the two parties reached an agreement on clinical trial on immunotherapy for lung cancer. So far, some 80 patients in Prague have been involved in the research.

With the smooth operation of the research, the two parties decided to extend cooperation in clinical technology exchange, medical professional training, innovative research and hospital management.

“We will enhance joint research and multi-center study on early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer and tracheal transplantation,” he said.

Local government officials said Shanghai is striving to build itself into a medical center in Asia and will further deepen cooperation in the health field with eastern European countries.
