Downtown traffic restrictions announced for Sunday

Traffic restrictions will be implemented in some downtown areas on Sunday, Shanghai police said on Friday.

On Sunday, from 8am to 9:30pm, all pedestrians, bikes and cars will be banned from the area surrounded by Lujiazui Road W., a part of ring road in front of the Oriental Pearl Tower, Fenghe Road and Huangpu River in Pudong New Area.

From 3pm to 9:30pm, Metro trains won’t stop at Lujiazui Station, but a few exits and the underground tunnel will be open.

On the other side of Huangpu River, from 5pm to 9pm, Yan’an Road E. Tunnel as well as a few ramps of Yan’an Elevated Road near the People’s Square will be closed.

Over the river, ferry lines Dongfu, Jindong and Taigong won’t be available from 2pm to 9:30pm on Sunday, and the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel will suspend its service the whole day.

On Monday, all exits of the East Xujing Station on Metro Line 2, which is the closest Metro station to the site of the China International Import Expo, the National Exhibition and Convention Center, will be closed till 2pm.

Also, some parts of Yan’an Road E. Tunnel, Yan’an Elevated Road, G50 Expressway and Jiamin Elevated Road as well as some streets near the site will ban cars from 7:30am to 10:15am.

It was previously announced that China’s President Xi Jinping and his wife will hold a welcoming banquet on November 4 before the first China International Import Expo which kicks off the next day.
