The city's tourism authorities appointed six Shanghai conference ambassadors on Friday.

The six people are from standardization, botany, Metro transport, information, electrical engineering and electron communication respectively, according to the Shanghai Tourism Administration.

They are the 12th batch of Shanghai conference ambassadors. Shanghai has appointed 116 such ambassadors who come from about 20 academic fields such as medical science, physics and finance as well as industries like hotel, MICE, tourism media and business travel since 2006 when the initiative aimed at boosting the city's MICE tourism development was created.

They are elites and leaders in their industries and are highly influential in international exchange activities, the administration said.

These ambassadors have made great contributions as hundreds of conferences have been held in the city under their efforts, promoting international academic exchange and boosting the development of relevant industries like commerce, tourism and catering, the  administration said.
