Shanghai mayor meets leaders of Intuitive Surgical, Nokia and Hyundai Motor

Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Gary Guthart, CEO of Intuitive Surgical Inc.; Risto Siilasmaa, chairman of Nokia; and Chung Eui-Sun, executive vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Company, on Thursday.

Ying welcomed his guests to attend the first China International Import Expo and said opening-up is China’s pillar policy. At the opening ceremony of the CIIE, President Xi Jinping said China will only further opening up to the outside world. The CIIE is China’s major decision to promote a new round of high quality opening-up and reforms.

Shanghai welcomes the world’s companies to bring their quality products into China, branch into the Chinese markets, invest in the city and strengthen their cooperation with local companies.

The city will strive to create the best international market environment that is law-abiding and convenient, and further enhance its intellectual property protection efforts to promote better development of domestic and foreign companies.

Shanghai is one of the most developed regions of medical equipment industry and it welcomes Intuitive Surgical to participate in the development of the city’s “Healthy Shanghai” brand.

As Shanghai is accelerating its construction process of building itself into a smart city and an artificial intelligence highland, it hopes companies such as Nokia to further aggregate development and research resources and share business opportunities with local companies.

The city and the Yangtze River Delta region have a rather complete automobile industry chain, so it’s mutually beneficial to have Hyundai Motor Company to expand its industrial layout in the city, Ying added.

Guthart, Siilasmaa, and Chung said the CIIE created an important exhibition and sales platform and their companies have received a series of orders.

Shanghai is a dynamic city full of innovation and they are willing to make further investment in the city to achieve win-win development, said the guests.
