A retailer accused of selling online fake Nike and Adidas products worth more than 1.1 million yuan (US$158,153) has been arrested, according to prosecutors of Jinshan District.

The suspect, surnamed Chen, opened his online store in January 2017. He found it was lucrative to sell fake brand products and thus he ordered a factory to make hat, scarf and clothes under the brands of Nike and Adidas, prosecutors said.

Later, he expanded his business. He formed cooperation with several other online retailers and became their supplier. He sought to earn big fortune by selling counterfeit trademark products, prosecutors said.

Chen was nabbed in September this year. Within a year, he had sold fake brand products worth more than 1.1 million yuan, which was identified as "huge earnings." If convicted, he could face jail terms from three to seven years, prosecutors said.
