Many new public spaces are opening up across the city as the collective efforts of local authorities and companies to offer more cultural activities for Shanghai residents.

Seminars and lectures are among the most popular events held at these places, attracting audiences of different age groups.

Shanghai United Media Group and its affiliated Xinhua Media Co are launching a new project — “Residents’ Cultural Living Room” — on November 17. It will comprise a series of lectures and seminars closely related to the lives of Shanghai residents.

The project combines the resources of experts from the media group and Xinhua bookstores to satisfy the increasing demand for diversified information and interactive activities.

All the lectures, to be held in one of the group’s more than 20 bookstores, will be broadcast live in all its other stores across the city.

The first lecture, on health, will be held at Shanghai Book City on Fuzhou Road on November 18.
