New ocean theme park promises learning and fun

The Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park opened in the Lingang area of the Pudong New Area on Friday.
The park, which is home to more than 30,000 polar marine creatures of about 300 species, was unveiled as China's ocean education center on Friday.
It has five themed areas including Merman Bay, Polar Town, Seabed Area, Ocean Tribe and Ice & Snow Kingdom, as well as two cinemas.
Its venues include Whale Shark Hall, Dolphin Theater, Coral and Jellyfish Aquarium, and Underwater World.
In addition to rides and shows featuring dolphins, sea lions, white whales and "mermaids," visitors can also observe a variety of marine and aquatic animals, such as penguins, whales, sharks and jellyfish.
Float parades and performances will also be featured, and there are six restaurants inside the park as well as a resort hotel with ocean creature-themed rooms.
A standard single-day adult ticket at the park costs 330 yuan (US$47.56), while “peak-day” tickets for weekends, July and August, and holiday periods will be 399 yuan.
